How do people avoid attending to the needs of the poor?
- We are wealthy enough that we arrange our lives so we rarely encounter poor folk.
- We rationalize that they don't deserve our attention because they've somehow brought their problems on themselves.
- We conveniently assume that these people are someone else's responsibility.
PRAYER
Thank you, Lord, for caring for the needy and the poor. Forgive me for thinking I was chosen to be a part of something exclusive. Redirect me to your heart that includes those who need care. Make me willing to join others who welcome the stranger and care for the needy. Unite my hands with others in expressing your love. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)
