FORGIVENESS

Ascension Day

Proverbs 23:17 (GNT)
Don't be envious of sinful people; let reverence for the Lord be the concern of your life.

Luke 24:46-48 (TCEB)
Jesus said, “So you can see now that it was written a long time ago that the Messiah had to suffer like this and rise from the dead on the third day.

“It was written, too, that there’s a message to deliver to people all over the world, starting in Jerusalem. The message comes with the Messiah’s authority: Stop sinning, express regret for sins committed, and accept forgiveness. You are the witnesses of what has happened here."

THE ESSENCE
Reject sinfulness and live into the resurrection life.

DAILY FODDER
We embrace Jesus and his message by rejecting sin, and in doing so we become a part of his new world order based on forgiveness.

PRAYER
Merciful God, I am grateful that you have established a new world order based on the forgiveness Jesus obtained. I admit that I'm not always quick to live into that forgivenss, let alone act as a witness to it. It's hard to acknowledge the sinfulness of some aspects of my life. Help me to get real so that I can fully and consistently embrace your forgiveness. I am thankful that your Holy Spirit is active in my life bringing all this to fruition. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER (ABP)
Our Father in Heaven,
we hold your name in the highest regard.
Please come and establish your reign here on earth
so that everything that happens here will align
with what is happening in heaven.
Give us enough food for today.
Forgive us our wrongdoing,
and we’ll forgive those who have wronged us.
Shield us from the trials and temptations that come our way.
Lastly, we pray that you will protect us from all forms of evil.
Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
