PRACTICAL FAITH

Jesus said, "Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise builder who built a house on bedrock."
SUMMARY SENTENCE
The person who puts God's instructions into practice is the the person on solid ground.
PRAYER
Thank you, God, for giving us enough instruction to live solid and meaningful lives. I confess that I give a lot of lip service to your directions without nearly so much actual practice. I'm more talk than do. Show me where I need to start doing -- the instructions that I need to put into practice. I'm going to build my house on solid rock. Amen.

GOD'S DOING

We plan the way we want to live,
but only God makes us able to live it.

We don’t have the right to claim that we have done anything on our own. God gives us what it takes to do all that we do.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Since ultimately it's all God's doing, it's wise to line up with him.
PRAYER
All-powerful God, it's good to know that the world isn't spinning out of control. In spite of the chaos you are working out your plan. Forgive my near-sightedness and the anxiety that comes with it. Expand my vision -- and my faith. I'm going to move forward trusting that through Christ Jesus you are working out all the details. Amen.

You’re the God who sees me!
LUKE 18:13 (CEV)
The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, “God, have pity on me! I am such a sinner.”
SUMMARY SENTENCE
We're best off once we realize that when is comes to relating to God, there is no hiding.
PRAYER
God, you see all. I confess that I play a silly game of hide and seek with you. It's not that I don't realize that you're all-seeing but that I have a hard time keeping that knowledge active. Have pity on me. Help me to honestly embrace my ongoing dependence on your mercy and grace. I'm going to aim for total transparency. Amen.
