PSALM 34:6 (MSG)
When I was desperate, I called out,
and GOD got me out of a tight spot.
LUKE 11:10 (NTE)
You see, everyone who asks receives! Everyone who searches finds! Everyone who knocks has the door opened for them!
SUMMARY SENTENCE
God responds to us when we are in need and call to him.
PRAYER
God, you are generous with your attention. Yet, I worry about being overwhelmed by my circumstances. Help me to relax in your generosity. I'm going to trust you regardless of what comes or might come. Amen.

THE CREATOR AND THE CREATION
The 5th Sunday in Lent
ISAIAH 48:13 (CEV)
With my own hand
I created the earth
and stretched out the sky.
They obey my every command.
John 1:1-3 (NTE)
In the beginning was the Word. The Word was close beside God, and the Word was God. In the beginning, he was close beside God.
All things came into existence through him; not one thing that exists came into existence without him.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
God created it all and it all remains under his control.
PRAYER
Glorious creator, thank you for the incredible world in which you have placed us. I admit that I've been a careless occupant of your creation. And some of this carelessness is coming back to bite us. Show us how to repent of our carelessness and give us the wisdom needed to navigate through the messes we've created. Most of all, help us -- help me -- to trust that nothing we've done can thwart your purposes for creation. I'm going to live in a way that honors you as creator, redeemer, and sustainer. Amen.

CHILL
JUDGES 6:13 (CEB)
But Gideon replied to him, “With all due respect, my Lord, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his amazing works that our ancestors recounted to us, saying, ‘Didn’t the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has abandoned us and allowed Midian to overpower us.”
MARK 4:38 (CEB)
Jesus was in the rear of the boat, sleeping on a pillow. They woke him up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re drowning?”
SUMMARY SENTENCE
It's always the darkest just before the Lord shines his light. So, chill.
PRAYER
Powerful God, you have us safely in your protective care. But I confess that I'm inclined to panic as the dark fog rolls in around me. Help me to trust you -- to relax and anticipate your upcoming activity. I'm going to stay calm. Amen.

PRACTICAL FAITH
LEVITICUS 20:8 (NLT)
Keep all my decrees by putting them into practice, for I am the LORD who makes you holy.
MATTHEW 7:24 (CEB)
Jesus said, "Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise builder who built a house on bedrock."
SUMMARY SENTENCE
The person who puts God's instructions into practice is the the person on solid ground.
PRAYER
Thank you, God, for giving us enough instruction to live solid and meaningful lives. I confess that I give a lot of lip service to your directions without nearly so much actual practice. I'm more talk than do. Show me where I need to start doing -- the instructions that I need to put into practice. I'm going to build my house on solid rock. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
