STEADY

PSALM 94:18 (CEV)
Whenever I feel my foot slipping,
your faithful love steadies me, LORD.

LUKE 22:32 (CEV)
Jesus said to Peter, "I have prayed for you that your faith won’t fail."

SUMMARY SENTENCE

In an unstable world, we can count on God to steady us.

PRAYER
You, God, are the sherpa who keeps us from collective collapse under the weight of our own stupidity. Thank you. Forgive me for crawling into my tent to escape the world. Help me to see the value of having you as the walking stick who steadies me over the rough terrain. I'm going to step forward confident of your stabilizing presence. Amen.

THE CHRIST-LIFE

ISAIAH 5:20 (MSG)
Doom to you who call evil good
     and good evil,
Who put darkness in place of light
and light in place of darkness,

1 PETER 2:21-22 (MSG)
This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step.
He never did one thing wrong,
     Not once said anything amiss.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
We're called to live the Christ-life.

PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, when I think of your courage to speak and perform truth, I bow before you while confessing my sinfulness. You know how I fear constantly for my own safety and reputation. Teach me to trust you more and more, that I may become more and more like you -- faithful, loving, and wise. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

CELEBRATE SALVATION!

ISAIAH 61:10 (CEV)
I celebrate and shout
because of my LORD God.
His saving power and justice
are the very clothes I wear.

ACTS 8:39 (CEV)
The official never saw him again, but he was very happy as he went on his way.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Celebrate salvation!

PRAYER
Glorious God, your salvation is worth celebrating. You lift us as no one or nothing else can do. Forgive me for taking it all for granted and failing to celebrate. Help me to more fully turn to you so that I can frolic in the salvation and justice which cover and protect me. Amen.

DISPLAYING GOD'S GLORY

LEVITICUS 10:3 (NLT)
“This is what the Lord meant when he said,
     ‘I will display my holiness
through those who come near me.
     I will display my glory
          before all the people.’”

1 CORINTHIANS 3:16 (CEV)
All of you surely know that you are God’s temple and that his Spirit lives in you.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God chooses to live in and work through us so that we might display his glory.

PRAYER
Glorious God, it is a privilege to have you living in and working through us. There are so many implications for how I live and my purpose for living. I admit that I'm resistant to letting go of my own plans and goals. Gently guide me into the Spirit-filled and directed life. I'm going to set everything else aside so that I can display your glory. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
