ISAIAH 60:18 (NLT)
Violence will disappear from your land;
the desolation and destruction of war will end.
Salvation will surround you like city walls,
and praise will be on the lips of all who enter there.
2 PETER 3:13 (CEV)
God has promised us a new heaven and a new earth, where justice will rule. We are really looking forward to this!
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Our lives now are shaped by our trust in God's promise of a new earth characterized by justice.
PRAYER
Thank you for the promise, God, of a new and improved future. I confess that I get so discouraged by the way things roll now that I lose sight of your promise. Refill my personal tank with hope so that I can live according to the rules of the future instead of the chaos of the present. I pray in the name of our Savior Christ Jesus, who is your agent of transformation in my life and the world. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

FRUITFUL LIVING
PSALM 143:10 (ABP)
Teach me, my God, how to live in a way that pleases you. Take my hand and graciously walk me to a safe and level field.
GALATIANS 5:22-23 (NLT)
The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
When we allow the Holy Spirit to function in our lives he directs us into fruitfulness.
PRAYER
Gracious God, I long to live in holy communion with you, to live a life that is more than mere existence. Thank you for putting to death in me all that fights against your life-giving Spirit. May I follow your will today so that someone may be blessed and bear good fruit. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

GOD'S CARE
The Second Sunday of Advent
EZEKIEL 34:12 (CEB)
As a shepherd seeks out the flock when some in the flock have been scattered, so will I seek out my flock.
JOHN 10:11 (MSG)
I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd puts the sheep before himself, sacrifices himself if necessary.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
God cares for us with the same intensity as an outstanding shepherd who cares for his sheep.
PRAYER
Gracious God, you look after us, even when we're scattered and confused by what's happening. Forgive us for thinking we should be able to solve our problems and create perfect solutions for our situation. Gently direct us so that we grow to see the value of Christ's sacrifice and how it leads us to greener pastures. I'm going to live well because of your care. Amen.

TRULY FREE
PSALM 102:19-20 (CEB)
The LORD looked down from his holy summit,
surveyed the earth from heaven,
to hear the prisoners’ groans,
to set free those condemned to death...
JOHN 8:36 (NLT)
So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Jesus is the source of God's freedom.
PRAYER
Thank you, God, for the freedom that comes to us through Christ Jesus. Forgive us for misinterpreting and misapplying that freedom so that it becomes all about us and our agendas. Save us from our dysfunctional and deadly desires. Free us to follow wherever Christ leads. I'm going to live in true freedom. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
