TRUSTING

PSALM 91:9 (ABP)
Because you've made GOD your safe place and moved in to live with him...

JOHN 14:1 (ABP)
Jesus said to his apprentices, "Don't let the things that happen stress you out. As you are trusting God, trust me."

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Trust God to deal with the challenges in your life by living with Jesus and following him.

PRAYER
Lord God, sometimes the problems I face feel overwhelming. I know that you are trustworthy and that you'll deal with them. But I intuitively step in and try to fix things in my own way. Help me to take a deep breath and relax knowing that you're on duty. Today I'm going to trust you with the following issues:
1. ___________

2. __________

3. __________

Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

SOLID

PSALM 25:20 (ABP)
Don’t let them shame me!
You are my safe place,
the shelter to which I run when they attack me.

MATTHEW 7:24-25 (MSG)
If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit -- but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Allow God to be your daily safe place.

PRAYER
God, you are solid! Nothing shakes you or throws you off foundation. And you are there for us when we need to be sheltered. Forgive me for allowing fear to replace your safety. I'm turning all my problems and challenges over to you and your care. You are my safe place today -- and tomorrow -- and the day after -- and...

Amen.

THE ONLY FONDATION

The Third Sunday after Epiphany

JEREMIAH 10:6 (CEB)
LORD, no one is like you!
You are great,
and great is your mighty name.

1 CORINTHIANS 3:11 (MSG)
Remember, there is only one foundation, the one already laid: Jesus Christ.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Christ Jesus is the only foundation; so we need to make sure that everything we do is advancing him alone.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for the foundation that you've given us in Christ Jesus. We are in desperate need of something solid because there are so many hot-air charlatans who want us to build our lives and the world around what they say. Forgive us for the times when we actually listen to them and put trust in such shaky foundations. It's clear what will happen to them in the long run. Apprentice me in the process of building on the Jesus Foundation. I want to be a part of your work of restoring all of creation on the solid foundation.

Amen.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS

JOB 1:21 (NLT)
I came naked from my mother’s womb,
and I will be naked when I leave.

ROMANS 13:14 (ABP)
Put on the Lord Jesus Christ uniform.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
In the meantime, dress for spiritual success by wearing a 24/7 Jesus uniform.

PRAYER
Indeed, God, we don't have much with us when we enter this world. We have to clothe ourselves. I hate to admit it but I'm not the best dresser. I wear bigotry, selfishness, impatience, and recklessness without shame. Help me to get rid of this stuff so that when I leave this world I'm appropriately attired for the ongoing life in your Kingdom. I'm going to dress for eternal success.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
