GOING PUBLIC

PSALM 119:172 (ABP)
I'm going to sing about your promise and how your instructions are totally on target.

ROMANS 1:16 (ABP)
I'm going public with the good news of what Christ has one! It's God's powerful way of rescuing everyone who trusts him.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Don't hesitate to openly share the good news of Jesus.

DAILY FODDER
Romans 1:16 is often translated, "I am not ashamed of the gospel..." What about the gospel might be shameful and cause people to hesitate to share their faith?

PRAYER
God, I'm grateful for the gospel and how you have changed my life through it. I admit that there are times when I'm not as vocal about my faith as I could be. Grant me courage and wisdom so that I know the best way to share the gospel in each situation and the boldness to do so. I'm going to be an open book. Amen.

As LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

UNIQUE

LEVITICUS 19:2 (ABP)
I am GOD -- your God. I am also uniquely immaculate. So you should be uniquely immaculate, too.

EPHESIANS 1:12 (CEB)
We are called to be an honor to God’s glory because we were the first to hope in Christ.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God's people have always been called to a unique life that is about honoring God.

DAILY FODDER
How does your life bring honor to God? How is it unique, compared to the way that the rest of the world lives?

PRAYER
God, thank you for calling us to partner with you in the management and restoration of your creation. I admit I've treated this calling as more of a hobby than a vocation. I need to clean up my act so that I'm truly functioning as a partner of Christ Jesus with his unique agenda and approach defining my life. I know that I can't actually do this myself and that I need to stay close to him so that his holiness rubs off on me. This is how I'm going to honor you. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

HEALING

2 CHRONICLES 30:18-19 (MSG)
May GOD who is all good, pardon and forgive everyone who sincerely desires GOD...

MARK 2:17 (MSG)
Jesus: "I’m here inviting the sin-sick, not the spiritually-fit."

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Through Christ, God heals the sin-sick who turn to him.

DAILY FODDER
What realistic alternatives are there to sincerely desiring God and his healing?

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for the healing that is available through Christ Jesus. We get to experience some of it now as a foretaste of what is coming. Forgive me for self-medicating my spiritual condition with less potent alternatives because they're cheap and convenient. I am turning from all that and confessing my sin-sickness so that you can turn me toward spiritual-fitness. I'm looking to Christ as my primary care physician.

Amen.

THE KINGDOM

DANIEL 4:3 (CEV)

His miracles are mighty
and marvelous.
He will rule forever,
and his kingdom
will never end.

HEBREWS 12:28 (MSG)
Do you see what we’ve got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Respond to the arrival of God's kingdom with gratitude, allegiance, and awe.

DAILY FODDER
How does seeing Jesus as initiating a spiritually rooted coup d'état affect the way that you relate to him? How does his kingdom disrupt the status quo?

PRAYER
Sovereign God, I'm thankful that Jesus has come to disrupt the corrupted regime that wants to do things independent of you and your ways. Forgive me for allowing the old kingdom to have so much influence in my life. Help me to rethink all of my allegiances and decisions. I want to stand before you with respect and awe. For you have interjected yourself into our situation and have become our Savior.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
