What are the physical, social, and spiritual consequences of devaluing an aspect of creation? 

PRAYER
Creator God, thank you for the gifts of creation. Every single thing you've created is holy through its association with you. Forgive our casual indifference to the aspects of creation that don't immediately affect our lives. I'm so short-sighted. Help me to embrace all of creation. I'm excited about what you have given to us and the way that you are renewing all creation through Christ Jesus. Amen.

Allow God's love agenda to become your deep consuming passion.

Jesus' summary of God's expectations is so simple but at the same time — so consuming. 

PRAYER
Lord of love, I delight in your law and seek to follow your will. But I can't manage to even follow the two basic commandments. Forgive me for loving myself more than my neighbors and more than you. Jesus, I acknowledge that all power in heaven, earth, and everywhere  between, belongs to you. I'm in awe that you have chosen me to be among your friends. Forgive me for kissing up to the powerbrokers of the world. They don't have your authority, yet I pay too much attention to them. Free me from their influence. I want to know what it's like to live with you as my primary authority. Amen.

GARDENING

ISAIAH 61:11 (CEB)
As the earth puts out its growth,
and as a garden grows its seeds,
so the Lord God will grow righteousness and praise before all the nations.

Jesus asked, “What is God’s kingdom like? To what can I compare it? It’s like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in a garden. It grew and developed into a tree and the birds in the sky nested in its branches.”

Gardening is a great illustration of what God is up to.

From the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelation, gardens and gardening are prominently featured. Why so? What is there about the garden that so easily illustrates God's activity? 

PRAYER
I praise you, God, for the majesty of your creation. You have made everything just so, with room enough for everything and everyone. Forgive me for excluding others; it's not for me to say which birds get to nest in your branches. Let your gospel take deep root in my heart and your love branch out through me. Amen.
