PRAISEWORTHY

PSALM 79:13 (MSG)
Then we, your people, the ones you love and care for,
will thank you over and over and over.
We’ll tell everyone we meet how wonderful you are, how praiseworthy you are!

HEBREWS 13:15 (CEV)
Our sacrifice is to keep offering praise to God in the name of Jesus.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Since the Lord is so praiseworthy we let it flow.

PRAYER
God, you are praiseworthy and I have no trouble acknowledging that. But I am easily distracted and during the very moments I should be honoring you I'm off chasing squirrels. Draw my attention back to what's most important during every moment. I want to become a fountain of praise -- to the glory of Jesus. Amen.

CONTENT

PROVERBS 15:16 (ABP)
It’s better to be a person of limited means while honoring GOD than to be an outrageously rich person with a life full of trouble.

MARK 8:36 (MSG)
What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you?

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Don't sell your soul to acquire stuff that only brings trouble.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for gifting me with a rich life. Forgive me for confusing stuff with that richness. Throttle my desire for bigger, better, and more so that I can focus on using what you've given to me to honor you. I'm going to be content. Amen.

GOD'S GENEROSITY

PSALM 86:16 (CEV)
I serve you, Lord,
     and I am the child
     of one of your servants.
Look on me with kindness.
Make me strong and save me.

PHILIPPIANS 4:19 (MSG)
You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Assume the generosity of God as you move forward with life.

PRAYER
You, O God, are merciful and gracious. Relying on you gives us great hope. In spite of this confession, however, we are not content with what we have. It is never enough. We want more. Give us today the spiritual maturity to live well, whatever our means. Amen. (Daily Texts, Mount Carmel Ministries edition

LEADERSHIP

ISAIAH 65:1 (CEB)
I was ready to respond to those who didn’t ask.

ROMANS 3:28 (MSG)
Our lives get in step with God and all others by letting him set the pace, not by proudly or anxiously trying to run the parade.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Focus on staying in step with God and he'll guide your way.

PRAYER
Gracious Father, thank you for your leadership. I confess that at times I get so caught up in the crisis of the moment that I forget about following your leadership and I try to blaze my own trail. Refocus my attention on your mace so that I can keep in step with your band. I'm going to look to you and let you lead. Amen

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
