GOD'S PLAN

AMOS 3:6 (MSG)
And when disaster strikes the city,
doesn’t GOD stand behind it?

LUKE 24:26 (CEB)
Wasn’t it necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and then enter into his glory?”

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Everything, including the worst suffering, fits into God's plan.

PRAYER
Glorious God, I continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. What a glorious outcome! I confess to being a skeptic when everything appears to be unraveling. Restore resurrection-driven hope in my life so that I can face everything without flinching. Amen.

RESURRECTION

Easter Sunday

EXODUS 33:14 (NLT)
The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”

JOHN 14:19 (MSG)
In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you’re going to see me because I am alive and you’re about to come alive.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Because Jesus lives we'll be alive with him and everything will work out for the good.

PRAYER
Hallelujah! We celebrate your resurrection, dear Savior. Thank you for sacrificing your life to restore ours. Thank you for breaking the power of hell so that we don't have to live it. I confess that I'm slow to adapt to this new life but with your ongoing intervention I'm going to live a resurrection life with you. Amen.

THE WORK OF CHRIST

PSALM 105:7 (CEV)
The LORD is our God,
bringing justice
everywhere on earth.

1 PETER 3:18 (MSG)
That’s what Christ did definitively: suffered because of others’ sins, the Righteous One for the unrighteous ones. He went through it all—was put to death and then made alive—to bring us to God.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Christ went through hell to make things right for us.

PRAYER
Suffering Savior, your righteous judgments call me to acknowledge my part in the unrighteousness you came to set right. Forgive me. Claim me anew as I am buried with you in baptism and rise with the fresh start you have won. You are so good to me! I dress in the robe of righteousness today with anticipation! Amen. PEACE

Good Friday

PSALM 147:14 (NLT)
He sends peace across your nation
and satisfies your hunger with the finest wheat.

EPHESIANS 2:14 (NLT)
For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Through the self-sacrifice of Christ Jesus God has established a new peaceful order where hostility no longer has the final word.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, as we pause to recall the sacrifice that Christ Jesus made on our behalf, we thank you for sending him to us to establish a new peaceful order. I admit, though, that I don't always tap into that order in the way that I relate to the world and people. I get sucked into tit-for-tat conflicts and jockeying to dominate my opponents -- even when my cause is good. Have mercy on me and continue to develop your peaceful disposition in my life. I'm going to follow the Prince of Peace -- even if it means following him up onto a cross. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
