LIVING IN THE LIGHT

ISAIAH 60:1 (MSG)
Wake up. Put your face in the sunlight.
GOD’s bright glory has risen for you.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:5 (MSG)
You’re sons of Light, daughters of Day.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Live in the light.

PRAYER
Jesus, light of the world, thank you that your glory has risen among us. You brought us out of the darkness and made us children of the light. Let your light shine through us. May our character, our words, and even our failures be used by you to draw others to your light and love. Amen. (Daily Texts, Ground Up Grace edition)

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name; your Kingdom come; your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

LIVING HUMBLY

MALACHI 2:10 (CEB)
Isn’t there one father for all of us,
   one God who created us?
Why does everyone cheat each other..?

PHILIPPIANS 2:3 (MSG)
Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
Put others first.

PRAYER
Jesus, you set aside your power and stature to come reside as God-among-us. You've shown us how to live humbly and justly. And you've even given your life so that as we trust you we experience your resurrection alongside you. You've done so much. Yet, I still struggle to throttle my ego. My desire to be right and in control of the situation continues unabated. Intervene and shape my life so that your humble approach becomes my approach. That's what I want to see happen in my life. Amen.

Amen.

PEACE

ISAIAH 57:19 (CEV)
No matter where you are,
I, the LORD will heal you
and give you peace.

ROMANS 15:33 (CEV)
I pray that God, who gives peace, will be with all of you. Amen.

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God is giving his peace to those who will accept it.

PRAYER
Thank you, God, for sharing your peace with a chaotic world through your Son Christ Jesus. I confess that I dabble in anxiety as I try to control the uncontrollable. Save me from my enemies and from the fear of enemies -- real and imagined. Fill my life with your peace so that it oozes out of my pores and onto everyone with whom I have contact. Your peace makes all the difference. I want to see it advance. Amen.

Amen.

God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit...

SUMMARY SENTENCE
God is there for you when you're facing tough times.

PRAYER

Merciful God, you promise to stay close and to look out for me. Yet, sometimes I can't feel it. Everything seems so overwhelming. Calm me so that I can trust you to take care of things. I know that you're really here. Amen.

Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2011 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
