Obey

Everyone should respect you, King of all the nations. You deserve their respect. ~ Jeremiah 10:7a (ERV)

We must obey God rather than any human authority. ~ Acts 5:29 (NLT)

God, you are certainly the ruler over all the people. You are the one who deserves total respect and faithful obedience. This would be a simple fact if it were not for all those people out there who think that they are you! Or at least they think I should respect them in the same way I respect you. Give me the wisdom to deal with all of these misguided and sinful voices. And save me from becoming one of them. Sometimes I forget who I am. It's easy to slip into thinking that everyone should bow to me and my opinions. But that's not going to happen today. I'm going to focus on serving you, King Jesus -- and you alone. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
