Weakness

Lord, have mercy on me. I’m so weak. Lord, heal me. My body is full of pain. My soul is very troubled. ~ Psalm 6:2a–3a (NIRV)

(Paul wrote: The Lord) said to me, “My grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9a

Lord, this is good news. I am full of weakness, pain, and trouble. I do things that are incredibly sinful and painful. Who could better display your grace and mercy than me? I'm not excited or happy about my sinfulness. But I am thrilled when I remember that your grace is all I need. You came into the world as Jesus to fight the power of sin. And you won! Your grace won! Help me to live moment-by-moment fully aware of your ongoing grace. Amen.

Difficult Words
Mercy -- when you do not receive something that you deserve -- such as punishment.
Grace -- when you receive something that you do not deserve -- such as forgiveness.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
