Justice

I know the Lord will provide justice for the poor and will defend the helpless. ~ Psalm 140:12 (ERV)

God chose the poor people in the world to be rich in faith. He chose them to receive the kingdom God promised to those who love him. ~ James 2:5 (ERV)

God, I wish that I had the faith of the psalmist. It is frustrating when I see how badly the poor are treated. I keep hearing that things are actually getting better but perhaps access to the internet makes me aware of more problems. Either way, the poverty and injustice that I see really bothers me. And while I can do something about some of it -- so much of the problem is outside my power. I feel like I have no influence. So, I am having to rely on you to make things right. Perhaps then, my faith is very close to that of the psalmist. Through your Holy Spirit empower me to do what I can for your chosen people. Enrich my faith so that I am trusting you and your agenda for the poor even more. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
