Patient farming

Let those who plant with tears
reap the harvest with joyful shouts.
Let those who go out,
crying and carrying their seed,
come home with joyful shouts,
carrying bales of grain!

~ Psalm 126:5–6 (CEB)

Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. ~ Galatians 6:9 (CEB)

I admit it, Lord. I sometimes give up too quickly. If I am not seeing something good coming from my efforts I want to move onto the next thing -- something more fruitful. Fortunately, you do not give up on us or your agenda for the world. You are patient beyond what anyone expects. I want to become like you. I need to become like you. And I am trusting that the presence of Christ in my life is remaking me into a patient farmer like you. Be honored today through my optimistic patience. Amen.

Challenging Word

  • Optimistic -- the state of being positive, filled with hope, cheerful, upbeat

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
