Welcome the weak

The Lord is good and does what is right. He shows sinners the right way to live. ~ Psalm 25:8 (ERV)

Welcome the person who is weak in faith—but not in order to argue about differences of opinion. ~ Romans 14:1 (CEB)

Gracious Father -- as much as I want to deny it, I am sometimes the person with weak faith. I don't always trust you -- so that must mean that I have doubts. I get caught up in my own world and want to argue with anyone who challenges it. As a matter of fact, sometimes I just enjoy arguing for the sake of the argument. I'm using other weaker people to make me feel superior. My only hope is your grace. You model the welcome that you expect us to give. You gently and steadily show me the way to live. And you erase the shame that comes on me and my family when I act out of my weakness. Please continue to remake my life so that I have the strength that comes from the Lord Jesus. He died and rose again so that we wouldn't have to live as faithless weaklings. Today I will continue forward, confident in your grace, and ready to welcome others who are weak, too. It's a good place to be. Amen.

Challenging Word

  • superior-- better, higher, more important than
  • weaklings -- people or animals who are weak, who have no strength

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
