The advocate

The people came to Moses and said, “We know that we sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord. Ask him to take away these snakes.” So Moses prayed for them. ~ Numbers 21:7 (ERV)

My dear children, I’m writing this to you so that you will not sin. But suppose someone does sin. Then we have a friend who speaks to the Father for us. He is Jesus Christ, the Blameless One. ~ 1 John 2:1b (NIRV)
Gracious Heavenly Father, it seems that we've never been able to remove the sin from our lives on our own. We need a faithful friend to help us deal with this issue. This is why we  look to Jesus. Moses was a good friend for his people but Jesus is a perfect friend for all people. He keeps us -- me -- connected to you. He keeps the relationship going even when I fail. I am so grateful to you for the gift of such a friend. You are incredibly generous. Might the awareness of your graciousness continue to transform my life today so that sin has less of a place in my life. Might your grace take over and totally fill me. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
