Waiting

I put all my hope in the Lord. He leaned down to me; he listened to my cry for help. ~ Psalm 40:1 (CEB)

We have set our hope on him (God) that he will rescue us again... ~ 2 Corinthians 1:10b (CEB)
Lord, I like it best when I can clearly see how things are going to turn out. I like to know exactly what is going to happen. But that is not usually how you operate. For some reason you don't like to show too much detail about the future. You just expect us to trust you and put our hope in you to work things out. Fortunately, we have past experiences with you -- and we have seen how you have treated others in the past -- so I feel confident in trusting you for the future. And when I am not waiting patiently for you to work out the future, I need some gentle reminding to get me back to where I need to be. I am asking you to do what you need to do to keep my hope in the right place. And I am going to again turn my attention to you and trusting in your never-ending salvation. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
