Vast love -- grateful lives

The Lord’s faithful love fills the whole earth. ~ Psalm 33:5 (CEB)

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. ~ James 1:17 (NLT)

Again, Lord, I am struck by the extent of your love. You have filled your creation with your love. And even the vast creation can't contain it. Not only have you created everything but you continue to fuel the whole kit in caboodle with your gifts. With so much generosity flowing from you, one might think that I'd be obsessed with gratitude. But I'm not. It's not that I'm ungrateful. I am grateful. But I'm also wrapped up in my own world and trying to be ruler of my own creation -- as silly as that sounds. I need to relinquish my aspirations so that I can become the grateful person who relates to you for who you really are -- the Lord creator whose love fills the whole earth. Let's get started right now. Amen.

Challenging Words
  • vast -- really really big
  • kit in caboodle -- idiomatic expression which means everything and some more also
  • obsessed -- If you can't stop yourself from continually thinking, doing, or talking about something you are obsessed with it.
  • non-stop -- you are obsessed with it.
  • relinquish -- to let go or give it up
  • aspirations -- the things which you intend to do, goals

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
