Generous God

I am sure that your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life. And I will live in the house of the Lord forever. ~ Psalm 23:6 (NIRV)

God did not keep back his own Son, but he gave him for us. If God did this, won’t he freely give us everything else? ~ Romans 8:32 (CEV)
God you are generous. I'm stingy -- but you are following me around to fill me with your love and goodness. So, there is hope for me. And that hope is you. You sacrificed your own Son for us. Raise me up so that I become like you in as many ways as possible -- and so that I live forever in your presence. Start today, please. Reveal opportunities for generosity. Help me to be less concerned about having enough time, money, energy, or honor. Amen.
Challenging Word
  • stingy -- not generous, one who does not give very often or very willingly, someone who finds it difficult to be generous

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
