Repent
Give up your crooked ways
and your evil thoughts.
Return to the Lord our God.
He will be merciful
and forgive your sins. ~ Isaiah 55:7 (CEV)
So get rid of everything evil in your lives—every kind of wrong you do. Be humble and accept God’s teaching that is planted in your hearts. This teaching can save you. ~ James 1:21 (ERV)
Lord God, your mercy inspires me to stop acting like an evil idiot. Of course, I've been doing my evil in a subtle way so that no one would notice. But you notice. And instead of squashing me under your giant divine thumb, you remind me of how much you love me, how you sent Jesus to die for me, and how you want to forgive me. I'm taking you up on your kind offers. I'm going to start paying more attention to the voice of your messenger that is already active in my life. Show me how to live as a forgiven person who has received great mercy. Thank you for your mercy. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
