Rewards and Righteousness
The Lord rewards every person for their righteousness and loyalty... ~ 1 Samuel 26:23a (CEB)
Happy are people whose lives are harassed because they are righteous, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs. ~ Matthew 5:10 (CEB)
Lord, no act of goodness or faithfulness escapes your attention. Sometimes it feels like the bad people are winning. I get discouraged because I'm not seeing the big picture. Open my eyes to see how you bless and reward us even when we are under attack. I know that I am righteous -- not because I have righteousness of my own -- but because Jesus shares his righteousness with me. So I know that an attack on me for doing right is really an attack on Jesus. And he is powerful enough to take care of that -- and he'll do so in his own time. I'm happy. Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
