Weakness and Power

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. ~ Isaiah 40:29 (NLT)

Therefore, I’m all right with weaknesses, insults, disasters, harassments, and stressful situations for the sake of Christ, because when I’m weak, then I’m strong. ~ 2 Corinthians 12:10 (CEB)
Lord, sometimes I get discouraged by my weaknesses. But I need to change the way that I think about my problems. I realize now that the troubles are just another opportunity for you to show your powerful care. So, in a sense I welcome the problems. I live with them -- eagerly anticipating your strong solutions. I don't know how you are going to deal with the stressful situations, but I am energized thinking about the amazing possibilities. I pray in the name of Jesus, who gave up power in order to save us from our terminal weakness. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
