Blessings and Troubles

If we accept blessings from God, we must accept trouble as well. ~ Job 2:10 (CEV)

God is faithful. He won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your abilities. Instead, with the temptation, God will also supply a way out so that you will be able to endure it. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:13b (CEB)
God:

THANKS: I'm grateful that you are involved with us through both our good times and our bad times. You are not a distant God.

REGRETS: I'm the one who is too often distant from you. I use the bad times as an excuse for ignoring you. And then when things are going well I get caught up in the moment and forget what you have done.

INTERCESSION: Please, God, help me to stand up under the temptation of self-pity.

PURPOSE: I know that you are up to good through both the good and bad times. I'm going to endure. I'm going to stay faithful to you.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.
