Protector

The First Sunday in Lent
The Lord is a fortress protecting my life. Should I be frightened of anything? ~ Psalm 27:1b (CEB)

Christ gives me the strength to face anything. ~ Philippians 4:13 (CEV)
Protector God, I am so thankful that I do not have to be afraid of anything. You protect us from bad spirits. You save us from shame. Even personal failure won't do eternal harm. Lord, you are giving me the strength to face my mistakes and to make changes. I know that change will bring challenges, too. Not everyone is going to like the way that you are changing me. But I'm not afraid of that. I know that you will strengthen me to calmly face even my worst critic and enemy. I trust you! Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
