Mercy

I am the Lord, and I show mercy and kindness to anyone I choose. I will let you see my glory and hear my holy name... ~ Exodus 33:19b (CEV)

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord. He has given me the strength for my work because he knew that he could trust me. I used to say terrible and insulting things about him, and I was cruel. But he had mercy on me because I didn’t know what I was doing, and I had not yet put my faith in him. ~ 1 Timothy 1:12-13 (CEV)
Dear Lord:

THANKS: Thank you for entrusting some of your business to me. It makes me happy knowing that you trust me.

REGRETS: I admit that I'm not worthy of that trust. Paul had been a terrible person earlier in his life. But I still do terrible things and have unhealthy thoughts. Yet, you still entrust your work to me. So I trust in you and your mercy.

INTERCESSION: Help me to move beyond the immaturity and weakness in my life. Pour out your mercy on me. Don't stop. You're making progress with me.

PURPOSE: I want to live according to your purpose and see your glory.

Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
