Reward for perseverance
I said to myself,
“I’m completely worn out;
my time has been wasted.
But I did it for the Lord God,
and he will reward me.”
~ Isaiah 49:4 (CEV)
Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens." ~ Mark 4:26-28 (NLT)
Lord,
THANKS: Thank you for encouraging me. Waiting for good things to happen is exhausting. But you promise that your message will eventually produce results. You encourage me with the word that there are rewards for those who stick with you. Justice wins!
REGRETS: I'm sorry that I doubt you whenever I can't see what's happening -- when the seeds are still sleeping in the ground.
INTERCESSION: Please fill me with faith and hope. Save me from the discouragement that comes with impatience.
PURPOSE: I'm going to move forward in my life, trusting that you are already growing something important in the fields around me. It's exciting to consider the possibilities.
Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
