Comforting
The Master, God, has given me a well-taught tongue, So I know how to encourage tired people. He wakes me up in the morning, Wakes me up, opens my ears to listen as one ready to take orders. ~ Isaiah 50:4 (MSG)
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:4 (NLT)
KEY IDEA:
The comfort we receive from God should be passed along to others.
PRAYER:
Lord, I am so grateful for meeting me in my times of trouble. The world around me is crazy but you give me comfort and hope. Sometimes, though, I get caught up in the despair and ignore the hope and comfort --
getting all riled up instead. I end up saying harsh and hurtful things rather than offering hope and comfort.
Help me to control my anger and to spend my energy comforting rather than always confronting. I'm going to trust you to work out the details so that I feel free to comfort the hurting. In Jesus' name I prayer, Amen.
*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS
The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul. The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
