1 KINGS 19:11-12 (CEB)
A very strong wind tore through the mountains and broke apart the stones before the LORD. But the LORD wasn’t in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake. But the LORD wasn’t in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there was a fire. But the LORD wasn’t in the fire. After the fire, there was a sound. Thin. Quiet.
JOHN 3:7-8 (ABP)
Nicodemus, you shouldn't be so surprised when I say that you need to start life all over again. This time you need a heavenly birth. God's Spirit is like the wind, blowing uncontrollably this way and then that. You can hear the wind howling but you don't know where it is coming from or where it is going to. Like the wind, you can't nail down and explain the life-giving activity of the Spirit.
SUMMARY SENTENCE
Don't be surprised when the wind of God's Spirit blows in an unexpected way.
PRAYER
Mysterious God, the movement of your Holy Spirit is an enigma to us. So we either ignore it or arrogantly try to explain it in great detail. Free me from all my preconceived notions of what you are up to so that I can float in the direction you're blowing. I'm going to live the new life that Christ has planted in me by riding the winds of the Spirit. Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
