Powerful Word

In your own days, household of rebels, I speak a word and make it happen. This is what the Lord God says! ~ Ezekiel 12:25 (CEB)

We didn’t repeat crafty myths when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Quite the contrary, we witnessed his majesty with our own eyes. ~ 2 Peter 1:16 (CEB)
Lord,

THANKS: I am grateful for the powerful way that you continue to make yourself present among us. I realize that the significance of your presence will only grow and that there will be judgment. We will once again witness your majesty with our own eyes.

REGRETS: I don't always live like I believe that there is judgment coming. I am short-sighted and I tend to focus only on the immediate.

INTERCESSION: Expand my vision. Help me to take your future coming even more seriously than I do.

PURPOSE: I'm going to live as though the future is now.

Amen.

Living Water

My people have sinned twice. They have deserted me, even though I am the spring of water that gives life. And they have dug their own wells. But those wells are broken. They can’t hold any water. ~ Jeremiah 2:13 (NIRV)

“Sir,” the woman said, “you don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. Where are you going to get this life-giving water? ~ John 4:11 (CEV)
Generous God, you fill our buckets with clean drinking water. And I'm not just talking about the kind of water that is in a river or falls from the sky as rain. That kind of water is wonderful. But you also give us the spiritual water that takes care of our thirst for you. I admit that I don't drink as much water as I should. So, please continue to invite me -- to remind me to drink deeply of the water that Jesus gives. I want to become a physically and spiritually healthy person. Amen.

One God

I am the Lord; that is my name; I don’t hand out my glory to others or my praise to idols. ~ Isaiah 42:8 (CEB)

There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many lords. But for us,
There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.
~ 1 Corinthians 8:5-65 (NLT)
Lord,

THANKS: Thank you for the life that you have given to me -- the life that came to me when I was born and the life that came to me when I was reborn into the Christ-life.

REGRETS: It's so easy to live as though there are many gods to please -- even while saying that there is only one God.

INTERCESSION: I need my actions to line up with my words. And I need your help and encouragement for that to happen. I am incapable on my own.

PURPOSE: I'm going to live as though you are the only God and Lord. For you are!

Amen.

Recruitment

This is what the Lord God says: I, myself, will search for my sheep and take care of them. ~ Ezekiel 34:11 (NCV)

As Jesus passed alongside the Galilee Sea, he saw two brothers, Simon and Andrew, throwing fishing nets into the sea, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” he said... ~ Mark 1:16-17 (CEB)
Lord, I'm so glad that you don't spend all your time hanging out in heaven. But you go out looking for people who need you. You are actively recruiting people like me. And I want to leave my uneventful life behind to follow you. I want to be a part of your recruitment team so that everyone will be able to experience your love and care. Amen.

DAILYTEXTS.ORG

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
