Hope and joy!

The Ninth Day of Christmas

You, the Lord our God, are our only hope. ~ Jeremiah 14:22 (ERV)

Through faith in Jesus we have received God’s grace. In that grace we stand. We are full of joy because we expect to share in God’s glory. ~ Romans 5:2 (NIRV)

God, you are generous and kind. You sent your son Jesus into the world to restore our relationship with you. He is our only hope. He is the way that we access your grace. Even though we still sin and act as though we can make everything right ourselves, deep inside we know that only Jesus can heal us. So we ask you to forgive us and to fill us with the kind of joy that comes from knowing we have a good future. I am planning to let that hope and joy slosh over into everything I do today. Amen.

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
