Wealth

The Tenth Day of Christmas

Make me want to obey you, rather than to be rich. ~ Psalm 119:36 (CEV)

Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” ~ Luke 12:15 (NLT)

Jesus, how come you keep reminding us to be cautious about accumulating too much? I'm not a greedy person -- or at least I don't think of myself as one. Well, perhaps sometimes I get caught up in worries over money and I dream about how life would be better if I had more. I'm sorry about that. Even such small mental drifts distract us from trusting you. And they also dull us toward enjoying true riches. I know, though, that you are gracious and forgiving. So I'm going to focus all my energy and attention on following you rather than dreaming about being well-off. Amen.

*ABOUT THE
DAILY TEXTS

The Daily Texts have been published by the Moravian Church since 1731. In 2015 I started posting these Bible verses for my spiritual formation students at Pacific Islands University. In the process of responding to the verses, I found the rhythm of looking for a common thread and writing a prayer based on that key idea to be helpful for my own soul.

The prayers are more or less modeled on the TRIP method, which is what I ask my students to do in their journaling. ~ Brad Boydston
