Compassion

Let your compassion come to me so I can live again... ~ Psalm 119:77 (CEB)

So go to the street corners. Invite to the dinner anyone you can find.’ So the slaves went out into the streets. They gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good. Soon the wedding hall was filled with guests. ~ Matthew 22:9-10 (NIRV)

Lord, your grace continues to amaze me. You extend compassion to everyone. You invite both good people and bad people to your party. That helps me because I think that I have more in common with the bad people than the good people. Sometimes I pretend that I'm really good and that other people should try to be like me. While I'd like that to be true, the truth is that I'm like everyone else seated at your party -- flawed and broken. Today, Lord, I want to focus on your compassion and how it has given me another chance to live for you. It makes me grateful. And it makes me want to turn away from everything that displeases you. It also makes me want to be compassionate toward others. That must mean that the transforming compassion of Christ is having an impact in my life. I suspect I will enjoy the party a lot more because of it. Amen.
